Re: Ice Hockey
Saw an interesting article listing Finns who won championships this year.
Leagues where new champion teams have Finnish players or coaches include: Iceland, Austria, Poland, Sweden, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Hungary, Estonia, New Zealand and KHL (and hopefully NHL). And of course CHL won by Finnish team.

Re: Ice Hockey
All CHL teams have now played 4 of 6 group stage games (and now there'll be month long break as CHL is played alongside the national leagues).
3 teams have ensured qualifying to playoffs (of 16 out of 32): SC Bern (SUI), HC Plzeň (CZE) and most surprisingly Red Bull Munich (GER).
4 teams have been eliminated: GKS Tychy (POL), Cardiff Devils (GBR) and shockingly Eisbären Berlin (GER) and TPS (FIN).
Of remaining 4 Finnish teams, Kärpät and Tappara look good, HIFK and JYP are about 50-50.

Re: Ice Hockey
CHL group stage ends today, but we already know teams moving to playoffs.
For Finland this looks like a very bad year and unless Tappara or Kärpät becomes champion or all Swiss lose in first playoff round, Finnish league is very likely to lose one CHL team place to them for next season.
Teams per country/league that are in playoffs:
(qualified/total)
Sweden 3/5
Finland 2/5
Switzerland 4/4
Czech 2/4
Germany 1/3
Austria 2*/3
Belarus 0/2
Norway 1/1
France 1/1
Slovakia 0/1
Denmark 0/1
UK 0/1
Poland 0/1
*=Austrian EBEL league includes teams from neighboring countries and one of them playing now and advancing to playoffs is Italian
Dragons de Rouen is the first French team yet to qualify to CHL playoffs (including 2nd and 3rd season when CHL had more teams and 32 team playoffs).
HC Bolzano is the only Italian team that has played in CHL (now for second time) and is now first Italian to qualify to playoffs.
Storhamar is the only Norwegian team that has made it to top 16 (another once appearing in 32 team playoff first round), now for second time.
This is first CHL season (5th played) that more than one team outside the 6 big leagues makes it to top 16.
Playoff tree will be drawn, with group winners seeded against seconds.

Re: Ice Hockey
CHL playoff tree:
Germany Red Bull München
Switzerland EV Zug
Switzerland SC Bern
Sweden Malmö Redhawks
Switzerland ZSC Lions
Finland Kärpät
France Dragons de Rouen
Austria Red Bull Salzburg
Czech Republic Kometa Brno
Finland Tappara
Switzerland HC Lugano
Sweden Frölunda HC
Norway Storhamar
Sweden Skellefteå AIK
Italy HC Bolzano
Czech Republic HC Plzen
In previous 4 seasons only teams from Sweden, Finland, Czech and Switzerland have appeared in quarter-finals; now there will be at least one (Rouen/Salzburg) from outside the 4 biggest leagues.
