So far interesting games, of the 32 matches so far 8 have gone to overtime - and there have been some major surprises.

Though the usual top 6 (I don't bet on Slovakia as 7th) probably make it to QFs, it's going to be close for several of those.

Last preliminary games today. Finland is in QFs, but too close for comfort and likely means 1. we'll face Russia and 2. end up 8th in the tournament.

Well, I was wrong on both. Since USA won Russia, we faced them and won!

Finland and Russia are in semifinals, I expect facing Sweden and Canada.

KHL is planning to drop three teams for next season, putting the number to 24. The leaving teams would likely all be Russian.
One of the candidates is Yugra, leaving of which would interestingly make Helsinki Jokerit the most northern team of KHL.

Re: Ice Hockey

So, there wasn't enough ice hockey for me...

We now have a new tournament, or rather a very old one making comeback.
Finnish Cup of ice hockey was previously played 1955-58 and 1964-71. Now it has returned.
Football fans understand the format emoticon

However, there's a twist. As the actual Finnish championship league (SM-)Liiga became 2000 a corporate entity separate from Finnish hockey association, those top level teams aren't competing in the Cup.
Instead there are teams from next two levels and some from one below that (where my hometown team plays, but for some reason didn't participate the Cup).

Anyways, it's a nice little addition, highlights a bit the lower leagues. Or would, if anyone besides myself noticed this kind of event exists - it took me totally by surprise, sheer luck that I happened to see neighbor town team had lost in quarterfinal.
