Iceland, in their first World Cup ever, got their first goal and point against Argentina.

Re: World Cup 2018 Russia

For once England are not the most boring team at the competition and we actually played quite well. A win against Panama should see us through. It can't go wrong, can it?

Not a tremendous fan of VAR as it stands given that it breaks up play and is still subjective. How it can miss Kane being rugby tackled to the ground twice in one game is beyond me. There was a controversy in the Argentina-Iceland game too.

Unfortunately the Russians are doing well. Hopefully they'll crumble when they (probably) play Portugal or Spain in the next round. I'd take an arrogant Ronaldo celebrating a hattrick over Putin feeling validated and using this as a PR exercise (though, that is of course inevitable anyway given that the tournament is running successfully). Russia should never have had this tournament, seeing Mo Salah pose with Kadyrov sums up why this should never have happened.

YESSSSSSSS! After a disappointing late equaliser we put the penalty shoot out bugbear to bed. Now for Sweden; we better have more guile up front or our attacking play will be meat and drink for Granqvist and co.

I see Pekerman has complained about English players deliberately holding up play. He must have been devastated by his players continuously whining to the ref at every opportunity and making it scrappy and heated.

A disappointing end, but beaten by the better side. Their midfield was just too strong when they got going. Still, this is better than I've ever known England. Hopefully they can push on, improve and better this. No more losing to Iceland!

That was a cracking final. Goals, controversy, it was entertaining and it even had a political protest from Pussy Riot. It's to be commended really, it's about time the questionable nature of Russia was brought to light in a tournament in which everyone's been praising Russian organisational skills.

Hopefully we see more backbone from the journalists for Qatar, but I doubt it, they'll not want to upset the hosts and bring their outlets into question. So we'll get Alan Shearer praising the pristine, brilliant stadiums built on the backs of dead immigrant workers.
