F1 2017

Could be an interesting season coming!

But let's start with the bad news: Manor may not make it. Unless they can find a new backer - likely giving the team yet another name - Virgin/Marussia/Manor may be out before season starts.
And that would be the end of one sad era. 2010 F1 accepted three new teams: Team Lotus, Virgin and Hispania. After various name changes and practically no success what so ever, those are now all gone, unless Manor manages to continue somehow.

Also, I'm not too happy with predictions that Silverstone might drop out of the series in near future.

Well, it's official: Bottas moves to Mercedes, Massa continues another year at Williams and Wehrlein drives Sauber.

Going to be helluva season (for Finns, especially).

It's officially over for Manor.

Of course if someone would get sudden urge to throw money at them, the team could still be salvaged, but that's not likely to happen.
Back to 20 car F1.

Such a shame that they folded after what was probably their strongest performing year in terms of competitiveness, if not race result.

This was first GP win by a Finn since Australia 2013 and of course first for Bottas.

It seems there are not going to be any new teams any time soon. Apparently there are currently no "serious" applicants.
"Stefan GP" still keeps trying, though...

Meanwhile, there are some interested of providing engines - if certain changes come 2021. Porsche is talking - despite their Formula E project - and now McLaren is considering the option of making their own engines.

Whole lot more from the engine front...
McLaren is switching to Renault, Toro Rosso to Honda and Sauber is about to not use year-old engines (for change) next season. And Renault says they won't be providing Red Bull engines after their contract ends after next season.

Bottas continues at Mercedes as expected, but it's only confirmed for next year, so...

2016 GP2 (now called F2) champion Pierre Gasly will replace Kvyat at Toro Rosso in Malaysia and some of the upcoming races.

This would strongly suggest Gasly will drive at TR next season - which would be no surprise as Sainz goes to Renault, leaving an opening.

Poor Gasly... he skips driving his third F1 race to compete for Japanese Super Formula championship, only to find out that race is cancelled due typhoon and without he loses the series by half a point.

Bright future ahead, but I bet he's not smiling right now...
