Pirate Parties

The recent election success of Pirate Party of Iceland caught my attention. Pirate Parties are no longer something to be ignored. As the old joke says, problem with political jokes is that they get elected.

Pirate Party of Sweden (that started the whole thing) at it's peak gained 2 seats in European Parliament.
In Finland, PP hasn't yet achieved anything, but it was in last parliamentary election 9th most popular, getting most votes of the parties that didn't get any seats.
Pirate Party of Berlin has had seats in state parliament.

There are others too, but Iceland is far above the rest. There's been great political changes in recent years - due economic crisis - and PP isn't the only new party to come up. But nevertheless it's notable that Pirates got 3 (out of only 63) parliamentary seats in 2013 and now are raising it to 10, making it possible that they are in next government.

Re: Pirate Parties

Icalandic Pirate Party actually had a chance to form a government - thus having prime minister position, I assume - but as they (like larger parties before them) failed, there's likely to be a new election soon.
