Apparently they announced they would no longer supply customer engines, meaning Lotus (likely soon to be Renault again) will be the only team with Renault engines, like McLaren now has Honda.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Sat, 17 Oct 2015 17:02:01 +0000 Re: F1 2015https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105464,from=rss#post105464https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105464,from=rss#post105464I don't think the EU investigation is going to do much, probably just end sup to some deal slightly different than current ones. But Red Bull could really pull the plug on RB and Toro Rosso and that would be a big hit. Another bad news is the Volkswagen situation, they had plans on entering F1 as team or engine maker (possibly through Audi or Porsche), but now that looks very unlikely.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Thu, 01 Oct 2015 15:27:04 +0000 Re: F1 2015https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105463,from=rss#post105463https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105463,from=rss#post105463If Red Bull leave F1 that could be a bomb, and with EU investigations pending into the breach of competition rules and the sharing of prize money things aren't looking good.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Li0nh3eart)Thu, 01 Oct 2015 14:19:31 +0000 Re: F1 2015https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105458,from=rss#post105458https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105458,from=rss#post105458We did get one dramatic driver move: Grosjean leaves Lotus for Haas! Apparently he means to replace Räikkönen after next year (Haas cooperating with Ferrari), but even to that goal this is highly questionable move, especially as Renault is buying Lotus back and the team will be in better situation than in recent years.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Tue, 29 Sep 2015 22:14:12 +0000 Re: F1 2015https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105453,from=rss#post105453https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105453,from=rss#post105453Button was confirmed to continue at McLaren 2016. Almost all teams keep same drivers next year, only Marussia hasn't named drivers (it's in fact slightly uncertain if the team can continue in F1) and Sainz of Toro Rosso is unconfirmed. The new team Haas will name one or both drivers tomorrow. Renault has made preliminary deal to buy Lotus and return as a team.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Mon, 28 Sep 2015 18:33:16 +0000 Re: F1 2015https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105410,from=rss#post105410https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105410,from=rss#post105410Manor aka Marussia switches driver: Alexander Rossi replaces Merhi for next five GPs. Renault dropped a bomb: they are quitting making engines. Apparently at the end of this season; they have contracts with Red Bull and Toro Rosso for 2016, but they're trying to get out of them. This makes it less certain that they're willing to buy Lotus. (Renault totally leaving F1 has been an option.) This would leave the almost bankrupt Lotus in difficult position. At the same time the whole F1 teams' engine situation get interesting. Honda and McLaren have planned to remain exclusive and if that holds, it would leave 11 teams (minus themselves) divided between Mercedes and Ferrari engines. I'm no great fan of Renault, but this is bad news for F1. Though gets a lot of interesting speculation going on.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Wed, 16 Sep 2015 14:26:59 +0000 Re: F1 2015https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105347,from=rss#post105347https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105347,from=rss#post105347(According a fairly reliable source) Renault is about to buy back majority of Lotus F1 and go return as team.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Sun, 30 Aug 2015 16:22:02 +0000 Re: F1 2015https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105323,from=rss#post105323https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105323,from=rss#post105323  The waiting is over... However Manor-Marussia is apparently not yet officially registered to compete again. The project named Forza Rossa seem to have disappeared, despite having been year ago approved to compete this or next season like Haas. Renault will soon decide if they will 2017 leave F1, continue as engine maker or return as team (likely buying Lotus).nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Mon, 17 Aug 2015 18:21:14 +0000 Re: F1 2015https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105268,from=rss#post105268https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105268,from=rss#post105268Well that sucked for Finns. Refueling may return already next year and by 2017 there's supposed to be changes (engine/tires/car weight) that would make the cars 5 seconds per lap faster. For those who aren't fans: simply put, it'd mean driving on greater speeds than ever in the history of the sport. I mostly like the sound of all this, but have to wonder if big changes now is bad for the team(s?) starting next year and Honda whose engine making plan was based on current turbo V6.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Sat, 16 May 2015 20:53:11 +0000 Re: F1 2015https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p104917,from=rss#post104917https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p104917,from=rss#post104917Yep, Monza is one of the originals, been in F1 every time except 1980. Several of the classic tracks are at risk these days. Oh well, some new ones have established their place in F1, like Sepang of Malaysia. As for races under questionable governments... Monza was build and got started about the time Mussolini took power and Nürburgring was somewhat saved by nazis. Good track is good track anyway. Of course it's nasty for FIA to do business with certain regimes, but I'd worry more about FIFA and IOC. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Tue, 21 Apr 2015 00:15:16 +0000 Re: F1 2015https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p104916,from=rss#post104916https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p104916,from=rss#post104916I see that there's more doubt over Monza's future as a race venue. It will be a loss to the sport if another major track is cast by the wayside after the recent dropping of the German grand-prix, especially one as historic as Monza (I believe it has been on the F1 calendar since the inaugural championship). Whilst I appreciate the need to expand the market, I feel it is a loss to lose as many traditional tracks as we have, and I am particularly uneasy about new races in corrupt and autocratic regimes.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Li0nh3eart)Mon, 20 Apr 2015 20:18:01 +0000 Re: F1 2015https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p104908,from=rss#post104908https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p104908,from=rss#post104908Kimi 2nd, Valtteri 4th! Last (even arguably) that good result to two Finns was 2009 when Kimi won Spa and Kovalainen was 6th. You know what's the best thing to happen to F1 this year? The new Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene. Not because Ferrari has climbed back to where it belongs, but because he's a character. The show needs characters; the kind of people that anyone vaguely familiar with the sport knows by face. The team bosses and, let's face it, drivers too have become plain vanilla PC yes-men. Where are folks like Jordan, Stewart, Minardi? Drivers like Prost and Senna, Ervine or Montoya (OK, there's Maldonado)? I'm starting to almost miss Schumi (no real news of him for long now). Ron Dennis, Frank Williams (Claire's OK too), even Jean Todt... well he's still FIA boss, but you rarely hear about him. Speaking of which, Max Mosley. All we've had is Bernie Ecclestone and we'd be better off without him. But Maurizio... if Ferrari can become winner again, he could be a F1 superstar, an icon for the sport. And he's great match for Iceman.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Mon, 20 Apr 2015 00:39:49 +0000 Re: F1 2015https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p104794,from=rss#post104794https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p104794,from=rss#post104794Vettel took his first win on Ferrari, first for the team in almost two years.
