The Open to All Requests Jukebox

Today, and over recent days, I have been listening to tracks I've got over Christmas from my Brian Jonestown Massacre albums. Here's a small sample of their records for anyone interested:

This one's not off my albums, but it is interesting and different to their usual material:

Anton Newcombe, the band's front man, writer and face of the band is extremely talented; he can play over 80 instruments I believe, though some to a rudimentary level, and the band released 3 albums in one year (in 1996). However, he is "flawed"; he's been in and out of rehab several times for various illicit drugs, he's an alcoholic (thought he's clean of drugs and drink now), he's egomaniacal and he suffers from bipolar disorder and possibly some other mental health issues. The band was featured in a documentary called ]Dig which highlighted his flaws, as can be seen from his on-stage antics in this clip from the film:

This last clip has been satirised in an episode of Gilmore Girls which also features Joel Gion; the band's tambourine man. I thought I'd mention that in case anyone is a fan of that show.

Feel free to add any songs you've been listening to!

I'm sure there was a big influence of Brian Jones in the band you posted. Both in sound and in visual. Just look at that picture of the blond guy with sunglasses.

Here's something I've been listening to.
Radioactive Chicken Heads. Cluck You!
Very reminiscent to Suicidal Tendencies, except with chicken heads, vegetables and other variations.

I love this band. They are hysterical and awesome at the same time!

Aye, they make no secrets of their influences, be it The Rolling Stones, The Velvet Underground, Joy Division or The Jesus and Mary Chain. Their name is a homage to Brian, as well as a reference to the cult-like figures rock stars can often come.

Today's listening:

As well as their cover of the 13th Floor Elevators:

Saw Colin and Greg play as Men at Work back in the 90's. Shame they couldn't get the rest of the band back together. Would've killed to see Ron Strykert play lead guitar. Oh well.

Petal: By all means, join in with your music. As sokol says, just click on the embed youtube button and search for the clip, or copy and paste the direct youtube link into the relevant section.

YES!! Sepultura! They were awesome back in the day with Max. My grandfather used to have a pool table and dart board in his basement and my cousin and I would play Beneath the Remains down there. Those were the days. :o)
