I don't think women will make it any different. Women are just as prone to negative behaviours as men are. Greed, ambition, cruelty, and so on, aren't gender-specific. The secret to solving the world's problems isn't which gender's running the world, but ethical, well-educated people running the world.

Seriously Heart, women are under-utilised, and marginalised, that's true. But once they're in positions of power, they're really no different in the way they behave. I've been a boss, and I've had women that I reported to from nursing in my youth, to when I stopped working to retire. They really are exactly the same, with the same flaws, or otherwise as men.

I'm all for gender-blindness when it comes to appointing people to positions in organisations. I don't see why someone shouldn't be given the job if they are qualified to do it, and I don't think gender should enter into it, in the same way that I don't think ethnicity should.

I agree with MO. Gender equality is something that is commendable, and something that we should all strive for, but I see no reason why women would necessarily be any better bosses than men. As MO has already mentioned negative connotations associated with power aren't limited to one demographic, also the power dynamic will always change when someone climbs up in a career regardless of their gender, plus power may still corrupt a woman, as it may have done with Tony Blair, Nick Clegg, or more extreme examples like Mao Zedong or Ayataollah Khomenei.

Of course we should continue to fight for the increasing progress with regards to the opportunities for women to succeed in the workplace, and elsewhere, in areas where women's rights are stronger (such as the UK) and areas where women's rights are appalling (e.g. areas under control of Boko Haram and Daesh), that should go without saying. I'm being cynical here, I know, but at the end of the day we're fighting for the right of women to be able to be just as manipulative, hypocritical, sociopathic and bullying as their male counterparts. emoticon

Yes indeed. Also when they can do that and be called "strong leaders" rather than "pushy bitches" then there'll be true equality.
