Re:
Thanks Mo. I'm currently reading "His Majesty's Dragon" so when I'm done with that I will give Thrones a try.

Re:
Good. I'm pleased. I've just finished the first book. Started reading the second one this morning. It's actually interesting that the piece with Arya at the end of the first series, only happens in the second book.

Re:
What annoys me with the translation of book to film, is that they always add nonsense to the story, or change the story because the film audiences want to see sex. The book doesn't have as many explicit sex scenes as the TV series does. It's more about the actual story of the seven kingdoms splitting up again rather than who is shagging who. The incest is there, but not as overtly expressed as the TV series shows it. Argh! I'm not interested in seeing people do things with their bodies that are best left to their private space.
Which reminds me of this piece that I read yesterday.
Ridiculous lies about ancient civilisations.

Re: Game of Thrones
I've said there is too much sex. If I watch fantasy or scifi or action, I want to see that, not sex. If I want to see sex... well it won't be GoT.
Btw action was bad example because it's far too often used like sex to "spice up" = ruin movies. Storytelling doesn't need extra action/sex and action movies don't need too much plot (porn even less).
Michael Bay, J.J. Abrams...

Re:
Unfortunately, the majority of young adults want to see naked people, and now that they're allowing full frontal, the producers try to push in as much of it as they can. All the scenes with Theon Greyjoy either humping someone, feeling someone up, or just generally waving his oversized equipment about, are not in the books. I find that, for me at least, it detracts from the story. I know that Tyrion is a bit of a satyr and that raping and public sex is part of the behaviour of the people in wartime within the story, so I can understand that there is a need to show it, as it is the only way to demonstrate the occurrence of the behaviour, but why add more of it in parts where it doesn't happen in the books. Those books are so well-written and the story is exciting enough without having to be made more interesting by the inclusion of Theon Greyoy's ding-a-ling. I sound like a Mother Grundy here. Far from it, I can accept that when you're experiencing a story visually, you need to have some of the scenes shown in a visual way, so I don't have a problem with that. It's the extra scenes that are added that irritate me.

Re:
I agree with you both. I'm glad it's not in the books to that level. I am going to start book one today (I hope).

Re:
The scene in the second series where Theon gets off with his sister, it does happen in book 2 but not the way it's portrayed in the TV series. I understand that they have to condense the story a little for the TV show, but still, seeing it's a Tv show in episodes, why not just extend it to a few more episodes to stay in the timeline of the book?
I hope you enjoy it Becky. Try to see the series as well, while you're reading it.

Re:
I'm well into book four now. It's different from the other three in that it concentrates on the obscure families who don't feature too much in the earlier books. It's not as easy a read as the other three.

Re:
Finished that one. I'm now into the last of the series. Then the two "filler" books and I have to wait until the new one comes out next year. This is truly a brilliant story, right up there with Lord of the Rings.

Re:
I was thinking the same thing about the sex aspects. Yes, it is there in the books and some of the descriptions are rather graphic but I do think they put too much in to the TV show.
As for changing the story, it is pretty close to the book. There are some scenes that were changed or moved to a different point in the TV show but it's a lot closer than many adaptations I have watched.
