Game of Thrones

For those of you who've read the books, or who are watching the TV series. Let's talk about it. emoticon

I started reading book 1 again last night. After seeing the TV series, in some depth as I have over the last two weeks, has really made the story come alive for me. When they talk about the "white walkers" I can visualise them, and the fight between the white walker and one of the characters in the third season. I think I'm going to enjoy the books a whole lot more after seeing the TV series with having applied some concentration. I particularly noticed how Theon Greyjoy's character as a weakling is fairly obvious from the first chapter of the first book.

Almost finished the first book, now I'm watching Season 1 again. Nice to be able to identify the characters and the settings better, having read about them.

Re: Game of Thrones

I've got enough books on to do list for years, so no chance that I'd read these. Hopefully season 3 starts here in few months.

If you enjoy fantasy, you might enjoy this Becky. Look at some of the wiki pages to identify the characters and settings. It's a little violent, but then so are True Blood and Twilight. I don't enjoy vampires, and I find the white walkers a little bit of a stretch in this story, but they don't feature much, just a reason to not go beyond the wall.

I find the idea that the "wildlings" live on the other side of the wall and they don't get attacked by the white walkers to the point of extinction, whereas the people of Westeros (the combined 7 kingdoms) if they venture to the other side of the wall, they're likely to get killed by the undead. Still it's fantasy so I accept that.

There are dozens of characters, and they have odd names, which makes it confusing. Also the story jumps to different aspects of the story from the point of view of the main characters, so you have to keep track of them. I find that seeing the TV series has helped with the reading of the first book for the second time now.
