Re:

Nowadays I'm buying games more than I can play. Along years I've counted that my usual situation is that I've played about 80% of the games I've bought, but with everything I've bought during last year, I'm pretty sure the percentage has fallen.

Now starting my 25th anniversary run of my alltime favorite Wing Commander series, including second expansion of WC1 and WC2 with its two expansions.
Not quite aiming dates like with some things, but keeping it on this round year.
Also included my 20th anniversary of WC3. And the annual WC1 will be 30 years since the release of the game.

WC2 done, next are the expansions - toughest part of all WC.

I'm trying out Codename: Panzers - Phase One, a WWII RTS. Not quite my genre, but maybe it gets interesting.

Got a little bit ahead in Return to Ringworld. This is one of my "eternity projects". I played the first Ringworld game over 15 years ago, after reading the book, but as I haven't gotten the sequels of the book, I've avoided the second game in fear of spoilers. And also, when I tried it I got stuck right in the beginning. This year I've been now and then tried it again and again and every time I advance one little step, I'm stuck again. Because for example in this latest moment, the answer was to use sonic sensor probe on the Tnuctipun stasis negator gun (in order to remove its empty power cell) - obviously!
That mumbo jumbo didn't make any more sense if you know the stuff in the game and book. And the beginning of the game has been full of that.

Got tired of Panzers and mostly just looking it through cheating.

Testing Sims 3 (or rather my hardware with it). Judging by my history with 2, I might fall to wasting time with it.

Got couple PS2 games today, western shooter Gun and The Godfather.
Unfortunately my beat-up PS2 refuses to run the latter, for no apparent reason. Runs on PC emulator, as much as my PC can run a PS2 emulator - not well. Anyway that's a proof of concept that I'll be able to play it once I get a new PC (and a pad, can't really play something like that on keyboard), even if the actual PS2 in uncooperative.
Gun on the other hand seems to run fine, despite a rather ugly circle scratch on the disc.

Right now I'm really undecided on what to play, been giving bit of a try on Sims 3, Warcraft 3 and now Gun, plus there's the ages old projects Return to Ringworld and Dragon Warrior(=Quest) VII.

Re: What are you playing these days?

Looking at my reviews, this hasn't been a good gaming year. Sure, I've had good time playing my old favorites, Wing Commander series and Game Gear JRPG Defenders of Oasis.
But the big new games of this year haven't been that great:
- Gun seemed great until the final mission ruined it
- Panzers just sucked
- El Matador was plain and meeh
- KotOR II had its moments, but last third was bad (and it's not really my thing)
- Xpand Rally had insane amount of grinding and got insane amount of swearing out of me
- Harry Potter 4 was simply bad
- Lego Batman 2 was worst lego game I've played
- and among other things I tried, Battlefield 2 didn't have as much/as convenient single-player stuff as first game, plus the last two expansions that were included in my collection edition can't be activated online anymore; instead I would have to download them within a free update - which is 2GB! In other words, download for a day or more something I already have on disc but am not allowed to start due stupid copy protection even though it's already being given away free.

So all year I haven't had new game that I would've ranked above 7/10, defined "OK" in my rating. (Angry Birds doesn't count because I started those last year, just finished one of them in beginning of this.)
Whereas last year I had couple 9s & 8s and got Playstation 2, providing fresh experiences.
This year games have not just been bad or mediocre, they've been same old, same old.
Gun was pretty much the most positive and interesting one, though Expand Rally was some true gaming.

After Monkey Island 1 anniversary run, it's time for Wing Commander 3.

Hate to admit it, but Wing Commander 3 is tiresome to play, at least on the Ace level I'm doing it now.
I has been five years since I played it - and back then with special settings, having max difficulty but invulnerability on; the previous playthrough five years before that - so I had forgotten how it can be.
Might be the least favorite (of the main series PC games) of my absolute favorite game series.
I had great time with WC2 and its expansions earlier this year, but here's not much fun to be had...

Got Tekken 5, Sonic Gems Collection and LotR: Two Towers for PS2 the other day.

I'm getting into Tekken, though that seems to be an "eternity project", something to grind for months and years.

Sonic collection was bit disappointing, rather than "gems" it has all kinds of shovelware that has been sold on the brand - major exception being Sonic CD, but that I already had for PC.
