PS5 and X/S are in total pretty much in same speed as the previous one, but this time Playstation isn't beating XBox as clearly.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Tue, 28 Dec 2021 15:12:48 +0000 Re: Console saleshttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p110344,from=rss#post110344https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p110344,from=rss#post110344The last prediction of previous post appear to be wrong: Switch is absolutely slaughtering both PS/Xbox consoles right now. Although it'll take couple years for new consoles to get to speed, Switch may yet have a chance to outsell PS4 - a shocking surprise for me. But then again, with Switch Nintendo has simultaneously sacrificed their handheld.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Thu, 24 Dec 2020 15:43:03 +0000 Re: Console saleshttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p109834,from=rss#post109834https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p109834,from=rss#post109834I just realized there's a pattern console sales by maker. First Sega, then Sony and now Microsoft. The pattern goes like this: 1. console sells OK (PS1 much better but still following this pattern) 2. console is the biggest success: MegaDrive/Genesis, PS2, X360 3. console more or less fails: Saturn was disaster, PS3 least selling PS, XOne taking a beating (partially due Switch, but nevertheless) So what does this predict for future? Sega's 4. console did little better than 3. (about same as 1.), but failed to recover and that was end of them. PS4 is similarly doing better than PS3, about same as PS1. 3. XBox didn't quite flop under 1. but we can approximate that next should, following this pattern, be at same numbers or slightly above XOne. In other words I expect PS5 to beat X4 in about same ratio as this generation and Nintendo... I don't even know how to compare their sales after they threw in Switch mid-gen. But if they stick to Switch even halfway next gen, it'll be rough after the new ones come out.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Tue, 12 Nov 2019 19:00:24 +0000 Re: Console saleshttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p109778,from=rss#post109778https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p109778,from=rss#post109778PS4 hits 100 million units, about to overtake Wii and the original PlayStation by end of year. That'll make it second best selling home console after PS2. Handhelds Nintendo DS and Game Boy are also ahead. PS4 may have chance to beat Game Boy (about 118 million), but PS2 and DS at over 150 are practically impossible. Switch is getting close to passing XBox One, if not at holidays then next year.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Thu, 26 Sep 2019 15:30:25 +0000 Re: Console saleshttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p107459,from=rss#post107459https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p107459,from=rss#post107459Things haven't changed much since last comments, except for Nintendo Switch entering the game. PS4 seems to be on the way to past 100 million, around the Wii numbers. XOne is close to X360, but now falling behind (thanks to Switch), so I'd guess... 70 million? Wii U is dead below 15, Switch has started strong and will likely sell more, maybe 30? Depends on when next generation appears. 3DS is starting to lose to PSP, but should end up close - again depending next gen. Vita is soon dead, barely beating Wii U.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Mon, 23 Oct 2017 15:48:22 +0000 Re: Console saleshttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105903,from=rss#post105903https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p105903,from=rss#post105903First the question of this generation was whether Xbox could yet catch PlayStation. Christmas sales don't seem to help Wii U much, Nintendo is still falling behind. We're likely entering next year still in situation that PS4 has sold as much as XOne and Wii U combined. For years their console and game sales information has been (mostly) reliable and week or two old. Now their numbers are from two months back and have moved on a week in last month. To one like me who finds console wars exciting to follow, this is very frustrating to follow. No news is bad news here. Also I'm worried about the whole site, VGC is one my favorite places in net and if this key feature fails they may lose a lot of users. On the topic, current generation is in situation that PS4 had sold about as much as Wii U and XBox One combined. Edit: fortunately VGC seems to be back in business, though it remains to be seen how regularlynondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Sat, 23 May 2015 14:06:06 +0000 Re: Console saleshttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p103362,from=rss#post103362https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p103362,from=rss#post103362The generation has officially changed. I follow console sales at Video Game Charts - that being the reason this topic exists - and now in the latest charts (week before last) first time ever all "current" consoles - PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, 3DS and Vita - have sold more than any of their predecessors. PS3 is still dragging PS4 - selling even more in Japan - but that's hardly a problem for Sony, beating competition in both old and new categories. Handhelds are another story...nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Tue, 22 Jul 2014 18:10:14 +0000 Re: Console saleshttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p103072,from=rss#post103072https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p103072,from=rss#post103072PS4 and Xbox One have been out for over half year, but it's still anybody's guess who "wins" this generation. Even Wii U - while clearly Nintendo's worst disaster since GameCube - isn't totally out of game. Mario Kart revived sales for a moment and next Zelda/Mario/Metroid/Donkey Kong will keep it alive for years, but remains to be seen if anything appears that would allow Nintendo to seriously challenge Sony and MS.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Sat, 21 Jun 2014 19:46:19 +0000 Re: Console saleshttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p102205,from=rss#post102205https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p102205,from=rss#post102205...and PS4 is 430€ (without game) If we consider the two consoles equal, that makes 220€ for FIFA download and Kinect. Nintendo has officially made their last Wii. X360 and PS3 are both at 80 million, which raises question if they might even catch Wii yet. Unlikely, except... Sony has said they are starting making PS3 in Brazil. Brazil is a funny console market. Because of taxes they cost very much - PS4 will launch at about $1850! - unless you make them in the country. Sega knew this and locally made versions of its consoles lived in Brazil years after rest of world moved on.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Mon, 21 Oct 2013 23:36:22 +0000 Re: Console saleshttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p99364,from=rss#post99364https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p99364,from=rss#post99364That price is a pretty bad hit after the PR disaster X1 has been. Btw about "X1", which it will likely be called around net. While Xbox has never done well in Japan, that name certainly won't help there. X1 means there "strike 1", more generally "fail" and specifically a person with one divorce. One more reason why Xbox One is the worst name since... Wii U. In driving it's keyboard (as I've never had a wheel). I don't play much with pads, despite learning that first on Sega. Only action-adventures/platformers that are really made for pad need one and sometimes keyboard is better. But motion controls, when done really well (which is rare...) are not to be underestimated. The Wii U however does not. Sure you could set it to access the net and download stuff but people like to be able to just use the game disks or cartidges of previous systems in the new ones.
