Olympics

Today is the early start with women's football. Our TV shows Sweden-SA game and tomorrow men's UK-Senegal.

Finland has 55 athletes. Small number, but then again we have no teams besides sailing.

Nah, couldn't be bothered with women's footy. Looking forward to the games though, and the opening ceremony on Friday. SA has over 130 athletes, just hope we can bring some medals home ... it will be interesting to watch Oscar Pistorius and of course, Castor Semenya after all the drama that surrounded her, poor woman. Hope she does well!

Re: Re:

I see the first gaffe of the games has occurred with the Korean flag incident. It almost seems deliberate given the countries involved. I can't blame the North Koreans though, it'd be a disgrace if that happened to any nation, it's amateurish. It's akin to getting someone's name wrong.

On a side note the corporatism of this country is seemingly being portrayed with the brand police brought in to enforce the ridiculous laws associated with the sponsors. Fancy a Pepsi whilst in Olympic Park? Forget it the only soft beverage you're allowed is one owned by the Coca-Cola company. Fancy wearing Olympic themed clothes designed by Nike? Forget it, the only clothes you're allowed to where whilst being in Olympic park are Adidas ones. Then of course come the banned words where "London," "Gold," and "Summer" amongst others are banned, they're only to be used by authorised businesses. The corporate thought police are after you. :nurse:

Our best on first day was 8th place in shooting, but weren't expecting any better.

Me too - thought it was brilliantly done, and at a fraction of the cost spent by other countries on trying to outdo each other every four years. Still a whack of millions, but worth every penny!
Have been watching as much as I can ... swimming and gymnastics predominantly at this stage, and also loving it. Hope our guy can do well today - he was first in the heats, so lots of pressure ... sorry, I mean Cam vd Burgh in the swimming. Chad did okay but only came fifth in his final. Well done though, and so much still to look forward to!

Re: Olympics

Sure it all looked great, but I would've preferred more symbolic/mythologic/abstract style to all the quick-nostalgia. On the other hand, as music and movies were so profoundly represented, I ask you where were comics and computer games?
And while I have no idea what Johnny Rotten thinks, I found including Sex Pistols here offensive to all things punk.
Still, good show.

Not much to mention for Finland today, sailing crew did reasonably well.
