Re:
Thank you both so much for the birthday wishes! Have had a really lovely day so far and been thoroughly spoilt with lots of wonderful messages, phone calls, visits, flowers, gifts, Skype calls etc ... feeling quite overwhelmed!
Just back from lunch at a new Swiss/German restaurant ... the waiter was a psychologist's dream, or nightmare! Good food though lol!

Re: Happy Birthday Petal
I'll say it on here rather than Facebook, because it seems more personal on here, it was where we first met after all.
Have a wonderful birthday Petal, it's great to hear that it has been a good day (I see SA beat England at cricket which must have been perfect for such an occasion, well for you anyway). It's a shame that birthdays only come once eh?

Re:
Thank you Leo! I had a wonderful day, and 74 well-wishers which is quite mind-boggling. Lots of thank-you's to say lol ...
I had mixed feelings last night about the culmination of the day though ... we went up to have drinks with friends, and a neighbour rang while we were there to say that one of our dogs was "in distress" - which had my heart pounding and I was frantic. Rushed home to find that all was thankfully well with the dogs, but ten of our friends and neighbours were all there to sing "Surprise - Happy Birthday" as I half killed myself to rush through the door and check on Lucy and Ruby. Didn't suspect a thing but they had planned a surprise (it was actually a shock) party, brought drinks and snacks and flowers and gifts and all had happy smiling faces while it took me about half an hour to get over the stress. They weren't to know that I detest surprise parties, so the wind was taken out of my sails completely and I had to make sure I didn't let on too much that I was actually angry at having been given such a fright! They meant well though, and when things settled down we had a lovely evening all together. We really are lucky to have such wonderful thoughtful friends here, and they were so excited about it that I didn't have the heart or the chutzpah to disillusion them!! They went to a lot of trouble to keep everything secret from me and arrange it all ... but I think they could have thought up a less alarming excuse to get me back home.
One friend made an artistic fishy arrangement for the snack table, very creative - took a pic but they'd already tucked in to the food by then!
And the gorgeous flowers that Mo so kindly sent!
Thank you again Mo, I love them!
And this little arrangement was chosen by my grand-daughter especially for me:
She told me that she chose the one she liked best on the internet and she clicked on the picture to order it, but "Daddy paid for it"! lol. Just love it!
Also got a beautiful rose in a pot, but haven't taken a photo ... was overwhelmed, and even today I still feel somewhat shell-shocked by all this unaccustomed attention.

Re:
Those are lovely Petal. I'm glad you're enjoying them.
Yes, I'd have been a little angry if people had done that to me, a little tasteless saying your dog was "in distress" surely they could've let John in on it and arranged for him to take you back. I'm sorry you were frightened.

Re:
I'm sure they could have come up with something better than the dog being in destress. Couldn't John have forgotten his wallet. I'm not sure I could have covered the stress as well.
