We have enjoyed a lazy day reading. Went down t the beach for a while but it was really windy, and too many people, and very hot. So back to the comfort of our hotel room.
Glenn and Jo hired a taxi for the day to explore the south part of Mauritius. we spent loads of time in that area before so will hear about their day at dinner tonight.
My foot and heel are so sore, I can barely walk. Limping around makes me feel I’m holding them back. According to the health monitor on my phone I’ve walked 21.8 km since Sunday which isn’t too bad considering I’m in agony.

Hi all. I haven't been around because I haven't had a computer for a week.

Last weekend my Mac's motherboard burnt out, so I was stuck with having to do everything on Barry's iPad or my phone, or on an iPad that's really good for nothing other than showing a slideshow and playing music.

Got the computer back yesterday, so all's well again. When I come back, possibly tomorrow or Monday, I'll talk about what I've been doing for the past two weeks.

Mac's working nicely now. Himself bought me a cute little hp printer that prints and scans remotely. Of course you have to put the scan into the machine, but you can control it from a phone or computer in another room. I'm really loving not have to connect the printer via cable when I want something printed. It's useful for the research I'm doing into the family tree.

My junkpile computer crashed again yesterday rather disturbingly: it shut down after entering CD, just like it started doing some months ago.
I thought I'd resolved the issue, but if it starts doing it again... not only is my primary gaming PC unable to use discs, but I also for the time lack a burning DVD.
Can only hope this was individual case resulting from something else - but it resembles the earlier problem in that it first appears with slightly faulty/damaged disc.

I can't remember when last I used a CD or DVD. They're packed away somewhere.

Today is again that day (now its 28th anniversary) that I dig out my old Sega Master System.

Poor thing is starting to be in bad shape: for years the cable has been damaged so that you need to find a good position for it to have even nearly proper picture quality; of 3 controllers (got the spare one later, fortunately) hardly any is fully functional anymore; you'll likely have to insert game 2-3 times before it works; and aside the fact that the light gun doesn't work with modern TVs (and I've only been able to persuade mom keep one little one of those for that exact purpose, as we currently have 5 TVs for two people...), it's pretty worn out too.

Every year I fear this might be the time I no longer can play my oldest games...

edit: so far no worse than last year; finished Snail Maze on first try
(annual thing for my, do I pass it on first or second; hugely easier once you're reminded how the first levels go, much harder when you haven't played it for a year)

I'd love to go back and play some of the games I had in the 90s. There was one phantasmagoria that was my first CD game. It was gory but it introduced me to puzzle-solving games which I still love but that are now beyond my pocket to buy. I played Myst for years until the disks didn't work anymore, and others, I can't remember the names now. Sadly they don't make games like those anymore, everything is all about shooting other people.

What I've seen from youtubers, games like that could be found among small indie games, even if they aren't made as big budget titles anymore.

Phantasmagoria! The collection with King's Quests (see Gaming), "Roberta Williams Anthology", includes the first CD of Phantasmagoria turned into demo of the game. (The collection is 4 CDs and they wanted to include Phantasmagoria, but it's... 7 CDs I think? So they made this compromise.) How I would love to get the whole game, and the sequel too.
