I haven't slept well since turning clocks.
Too much light, after winter.
The sun is starting to bother my gaming too, low just in the hours of my most typical gaming time.

Re:

We spent 10 days in Johannesburg during last week. Started off with being held up about an hour after leaving home in the dark because a truck was burning on the highway. The. rest of the journey was without incident. We arrived there in time to swallow some coffee and then headed out to look at houses. This we did most of the week, stopping only one morning to see the remake of Death Wish, which was really good.

On Saturday before my birthday another family of the kids took me out for a haircut, food, pedicure, and to view their new house. Then on Sunday we went back to look again at a house we liked, and made an offer which has been accepted. My birthday was wonderful with all the kids at a party, and on Tuesday before we left to come back home, we stopped for the morning to watch my youngest get married to his long-term girlfriend. Then we hit the road back arriving after dark.

This week I've been busy with people coming to view our house as the sale is now urgent. I have five agencies working on it, and the internal people. We've had to accept that the house isn't worth as much as we were told, so now we wait to hear how little we'll have over after the sale, possibly only enough to get us and our household up north.

It's exciting, but also disappointing that this house isn't worth as much as we were led to believe when we bought it "it's a great investment" sure but not enough to replace it with something better. Anyway, I'm waiting for a buyer. They tell me there's someone for every house, so possibly that someone is out there.

I'm trying to make the house more attractive to buyers. What I need is a space somewhere I can hide boxes and extra clutter while we sell the house. We have videographers coming on Thursday. It will be interesting to see how they move my stuff around to make it more attractive. We used to help neighbours out with storing their stuff out of the way of viewers. This is where a garage would come in handy.

Beginning of the end and a sign of times: today I for first time bought on DVD a film I already had on VHS (other than ones I'd recorded from TV). My VCR has gotten so bad I rarely dare risk tapes of great (sentimental) value.

The movie is The Big Boss.

Saw a pair of goldeneyes and a swan out there. Saw exceptionally close, they flew by/over me when I was on bridge. It was 5-10 meters above, but I'm not sure if I've ever seen a swan in flight that close.

My every day now is doing major clean ups every morning in case a buyer comes to view the house. Very exciting I must say - not.

I've said it before, but once again I have to wonder how fast world changes: before I was teen, I hadn't once seen a non-white person in this town (aside the local Roma) and first couple were US exchange students; now it's impossible to go out without meeting at least one person of some ethnic minority. And it's not even tourist season yet.

And if we take a look back twice that far: I once saw an old (only couple decades before my birth!) newspaper article from neighbor town titled "black person seen at church hill" - that was news back then.
(Of course they didn't use phrase "black person"...)

It must be horrible to be the centre of attention simply because you have a different skin colour, and to be suspected of planning crimes because of it.

I think here it's more likely like with handicapped, everyone carefully avoid looking as not to stare. I'm sure that eventually gets on one's nerves too.

I know it did with my mother. Seeing people walking around on artificial legs was an oddity in the 1960s, so people used to stare, much to her annoyance, and leading to her not wanting to go out in public. She used to get out of the car only if she had to go for medical treatment or to buy clothes. Otherwise as much as she loved going out, she didn't enjoy being gawked at.
