Scotland's Independence
Wondering if Heart in particular has any thoughts on this ... what does everyone else think, is it a good idea or not?

Re: Scotland's Independence
Coming from small nation, I'm sort of always for everyone's independence - except when it's just to dump the poor part of country.

My opinion is a total open world where there are no nations and no national identities, where people are just people, but that's me and my utopia.

Re:
If only Mo ... sigh.
Read a statistic somewhere today that claims that an estimated 60 0000 children in Scotland have parents who are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol.
Just wonder why Scotland was singled out, and what the figures are like for other countries.

Re:
The Yes for independence bunch opened their campaign yesterday but as things stand at the moment the polls suggest that the majority (around 2/3) of people want to remain part of the UK.
The Yes campaign have already won the argument that Scotland has the right to be independent if they want it but they also have to win the economic argument and show that we won't be worse off. Personally, I think Scotland can stand on it's own and I would have no problem voting yes if anything other than to tell the English based press, their MPs, and those that brand us as'subsidy Junkies' to get stuffed.
If they think the keep us then they can keep their money - we'll keep our dignity.
And anyway, Scotland's First Minister, Alex Salmond, is a huge Hearts fan so he's off to a good start and in the lead in my book.

Re:
Seeing that the royal family of the UK are the descendants of the last king of Scotland (no pun intended), how could they possibly want independence and in so doing, deny their rightful rulers their Scottish ancestry? In my humble opinion, the people of the British Isles ought to unite under one banner, keeping perhaps their ethnic identity but forming a unified nation as Britons.
A little like all the people who live in Africa are Africans, even if they are Tswanas, Zulus, Afrikaners, Rwandans etc. If we can keep our ethnic identity but still keep an allegiance to Africa as our homeland, surely the world's oldest modern imperialists can do it as well??? Just asking.

Re: Scotland's Independence
Why should they give up the royal family if they become independent? Queen's already head of, what, 16 countries?
On the other hand, if Scots want a legitimate monarch, they could follow the Jacobite succession.
In the world we live in, I prefer cooperation between independent countries to trying to melt them together.
