New Year
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8436016.stm
All of this is payed for by the tax payer. We don't have end of day things or end of month things so are end of year things pointless?

Re: New Year
I for one am sorry that my hometown doesn't do fireworks anymore.
Sure bread comes first, but some circuses are needed too.

Re:
While I don't think the tax payer should have to pay for things like this (I don't even think New Years should be a holiday!), I can understand that we vote these people in and most people actually like to have a party and waste money. I am not one of the them and I think people should worry more about their own finances.

Re:
We can't talk about the taxpayers' money being wasted on parties - our government is best in the world at that - just wait for the big ANC celebration coming up soon - it's going to cost millions and millions. They're better at partying than they are at governing, that's for sure.
