4. to take (someone) behind sauna
5. to take (someone) out to coffee
6. to ice-fish
7. "ruusperi"
8. to go yo-yo
9. The Great Owls
10. Oviedo's missile & Kerpen's schoolmaster

Re:
I have no idea.
1. Probably talking nonsense.
8. Probably to go ballistic
That's all I can guess.

Re:
Wrong on both. Actually those two are the least used of these.
Think more pessimistic. Lots of sports terms here too.

Re:
Then I can't figure any of them out. I don't know about sports, I'm not interested in sport, I don't see the point to sport, so I don't learn anything about sport except what i pick up from sitting in the same room as a man who watches TV sport all weekend.

Re: Independence Day Quiz
No, but it's "Lions" for same reason: a lion in our coat of arms.

Re: Independence Day Quiz
1, 4, 6 and 8 aren't from sports.
7: "ruusperi" is Finnish twist of Swedish pronounciation of Rosberg, originally from our 1982 F1 champion Keke and nowdays his son Nico; word for someone speeding or generally driving fast
10: Oviedo's missile & Kerpen's schoolmaster are Alonso and Schumi; for some reason we almost only have nicknames for non-Finnish drivers
Any more guessing on the rest?

Re: Independence Day Quiz
1. to speak Norwegian
To throw up; that's what it sounds like. Though maybe Icelandic would be the most accurate choice.
2. (to hit) upper granny
Score in upper corner; originally hockey term, now also in footy. Further version: upper granny sings.
3. The Lions
Our natinal hockey team; as I said before from our coat of arms.
4. to take (someone) behind sauna
To kill/slaughter; mostly figuratively, most commonly in "someone should be..."
Behind sauna was the traditional place to slaughter animals: near but out of sight and handy to go wash yourselves after.
5. to take (someone) out to coffee
Trick defence and/or goalie (completely); in any suitable sport.
6. to ice-fish
Being about to pass out or fall asleep, particularly due drinking. From the position (sitting, leaning forward) and nodding of head which sort of resembles the fishing hand motions.
8. to go yo-yo
To hang yourself. We are after all the top suicide nation of western world.
9. The Great Owls
National footy team. Comes from few years back when one bird came to sit upon goal during team practice.
(There are increasingly many "city owls" in Helsinki in recent years.)
Also "Hyypiä" is an old name for Great Owl (Sami Hyypiä? Anyone remember? Played in Liverpool.)

Re: Independence Day Quiz
December 6th is the independence day of Finland and like in some previous years, I've come up with something little for that.
Time for another independence day quiz; this time about Finnish names.
In Japan Tomi (that's my name if someone didn't know) is a female name. This got me thinking, do some names have a universal "sound" so that similar names might be associated to one or other sex in cultures which are in no way connected? Unlikely idea, and impossible to test here as we are very much connected, but let us have a quick game inspired by that thought.
I'm putting here a list of usual Finnish first names and I'd like you to guess are they male or female. Just copy the list and mark each M/F.
Some may be obvious, some may be trick questions (in this context) and hopefully at least of few you'll have no clue of and have to guess by hunch.
