WRC rally isn't turning out well for Finns this year either. Halfway series and look like there'll be one or two in places 2-5, like last ten years. It's longest streak without Finnish champion in the history of the sport.

I'm kind of excited about the Formula E series that starts in september, first major electric car racing series.
Just two things wrong: no Finnish drivers (probably) and therefore it's likely I won't get to see it.

FE has 10 teams with two drivers each. The season - september to june - will have 10 races (or 9, one is still undecided), all city circuits including Monaco and London.
There will be number of former F1 drivers in the series (both driving and running teams).

The races, planned to be about 45 minutes long, will have one pitstop during which drivers change cars. Because they're, you know, electric cars. That have to be charged for two hours after qualifying.
Still room for improvement on that tech...

Whole event happens during one day.

This and next year number of junior Formula series are replaced by ones of new Formula 4 standard. These are Formula Abarth (Italy), Formula Future Fiat (Uruguay/Brazil/Argentina), Australian Formula Ford Championship, Formula Challenge Japan, British Formula Ford Championship and ADAC Formel Masters (Germany).

But the real news is, there's supposed to be a seventh, entirely new F4 series... in Finland!
Well, partially. SMP F4 Championship, which may start 2015, is to have two races in Finland, one in Estonia and four in Russia.
Which means the whole project is somewhat uncertain just now...

The F4 standard is meant as a step between karting and the somewhat professional and expensive F3 level.

Rally Finland, historically dominated by local drivers, had been won last three years in row by foreigners (French) - first time to happen.

Jari-Matti Latvala saves us from that ugly streak becoming four.
Gives him a slim hope for championship, but Ogier is pretty far ahead and was second here.

The Formula E series started today in Peking.
Brazilian Lucas di Grassi won when Nicolas Prost (son of F1 champion) and former F1 driver Nick Heidfeld crashed in final turn fighting for victory (each blames the other of course).
Former F1 driver Franck Montagny was second and Sam Bird (GP2, F1 test driver) third.

There's talk about possible Formula E race in Helsinki in future. But so far that's very theoretical.

Marussia announced their GP3 team will not be driving in Sochi; the last race in Abu Dhabi is uncertain. The team is out of money and that puts speculation on the F1 team (though I'd assume them to be rather separate organizations).
Patrick Kujala, currently 13th and best Finn in GP3, has driven in Marussia. Fortunately he's gotten a place at Trident for Sochi (and Abu Dhabi?).

This week WRC ends with Wales Rally, but Ogier has already won the championship - 11th consecutive for French drivers.

This year Finns are 2nd & 4th, last year 3rd & 4th, before that 2nd & 3rd, 2nd & 4th, 2nd & 6th, 2nd & 4th, 2nd & 4th, 2nd & 3rd, 2nd & 3rd, 3rd & 4th...
Just look at that: in last TEN years Finns have been 2nd 8 times, 3rd 4 times, 4th 6 times - and zero championships!

Pretty damn frustrating statistics.

Formula E continues this week with Uruguay ePrix, as they're called.

Having lost his place at Toro Rosso, Vergne becomes 13th former F1 driver to appear in Formula E on this inaugural season.

Former F1 drivers dominated Punta del Este ePrix, taking first six places with Sébastien Buemi winning.

After third of the season, Lucas Di Grassi leads in points, Buemi and former GP2 driver Sam Bird behind him.
Next race Argentina in january.

Monte Carlo Rally open this WRC season, which exceptionally has only one Finn. Still, being on top team Jari-Matti Latvala ought to be competing at least race wins, if not championship.
