Räikkönen is going to try Nascar next. This year he driver as much as he can between rally; next year... he'll certainly have options all round.

I do hope he stays in WRC. If he drives rest of his career in rally, I believe he will have chance of winning races eventually, maybe even competing of championship.

Jordan rally was mediocre for Finns: Latvala 2nd, Hirvonen 4th and Räikkönen positively 6th.

Rally Sardinia wasn't good for us. Latvala crashed right is start, couple lesser Finns too, Räikkönen wasn't in...

Only Hirvonen was 2nd and got the 3 powerstage points, but with Loeb winning it's still a loss. Those two seem to be fighting the championship again.

Juho Hänninen was 8th, raising the S2000-class driver 11th in WRC points.

GP3 started pretty bad for Finns, Bottas was 4th & 8th (while we were hoping him to fight for championship) and the other two were far from points.

Argentine Rally now, looks good for both Finns in.

Räikkönen drives his first race in Nascar's second level Nationwide.

But here's my local news:

Mänttä has long proud history with motorsports: the Mänttä 200 rally.
But now here's more.
Next week we're having the first ever street race in here, Mänttä Sprint.
[sign in to see URL] and 100 drivers.

WTF this is so very wrong...

Loeb won Argentine Rally by 2.4 seconds, Hirvonen being second. However Loeb - and his teammate Ogier, but apparently no other driver - took a shortcut that gave them about 4 seconds advantage.
FIA's decision?
The event managers are fined 5000$ for unclear instructions. Loeb remains the winner.

The grand event, Rally Finland this week. Once again it's Loeb vs Finns...

Finally good news from GP3: Valtteri Bottas was 3rd in saturday race and won the second start of sunday and is now 6th in the series, 10 points behind lead. 3(x2) races left.
Other Finns haven't done so well, Aaro Vainio is 14th and Matias Laine 28th.

In any other sport we'd be more than happy with Finns on places 2,4,9&10 (unless a Swede won). But in rally - particularly Rally Finland - that's huge disappointment. And unstoppable Seb Loeb becomes first ever foreigner to win the race twice.

GP3 is another story. After winning on saturday and second on sunday, Valtteri Bottas leads the series! As does his team Lotus ART (that's Lotus like Lotus Renault in F1, not related to Team Lotus).

German Rally was at weekend and there's number of things to notice:

- first asphalt race Loeb didn't win since 2004!
- the first actual rally for Mini as third constructor team in the series, after long Citroen vs Ford; and right away they take a 3rd place and practically beat Ford - which means...
- this was another disaster for Finns. Latvala lost FOUR tires along race and retired in second last stage. Hirvonen was fourth, but that's not good enough as he's our only theoretical hope for championship. Also sub-class leader Hänninen retired.
- Räikkönen did extremely well being 6th which puts him 8th in series total - even though he hasn't participated in all races

Australian Rally starts dramatically with number of top drivers crashing, leaving two Finns on top!

All the more sad that Räikkönen isn't driving there; the choice not to race already cost him $20000 and place in constructors championship, but now he's also missing a good chance for best result of career.
(Teams are required to participate 7 races including 2 outside Europe. As Australia is last rally outside Europe, Räikkönen's Ice1 team has not followed the rule and faces the FIA sanctions mentioned above. But Räikkönen is still free to drive the three last races and I'm assuming he will have official standing in drivers championship, even though team is excluded from constructors championship.
This was a tactical choice, he wasn't particularly interested in Australia and without proper sponsors it would've likely cost him more to compete there than to not.)

Valtteri Bottas - Williams test driver and likely next Finn in F1 - has won GP3 saturday race in Monza and confirmed series championship.

Bottas will probably get to drive a GP2 race in Abu Dhabi; that's not part of the actual GP2 series and therefore number of young drivers, particularly ones driving GP2 next season, get a chance to try GP2 cars.

Re: (Other) Motorsports

There's still one motor sport that Finns rule: enduro.

There's three series, E1, E2 and E3.

In the top series E3 Mika Ahola took his first championship on that level; in four previous years he'd won both E1 and E2 twice.
Also Marko Tarkkala was 4th.

In E1 dominated - Finland took over the whole podium! Champion is Juha Salminen who has won E2 and E1 before as well as various titles of pre-2004 series.

And if you're wondering what is enduro, ]see wikipedia

In WRC rally situation is incredible. Two races left, Spain this week and UK in three weeks and Loeb and Hirvonen are even with Ogier three points behind. Ogier, who will change team for next year, is under team orders to let Loeb win; it'll be interesting to see what he does... or not.
