Re: The Rant thread
Ranting mildly about liars. If you tell lies you have to have a brilliant memory. Just saying.
Lately I seem to be noticing lots of contradictions in conversations. I just smile, and know what I know. I get mad when I’m taken for a fool.

Re:
I can't lie. I can't be bothered to try because I can't remember a story. So I'd get caught out if I tried, and I don't see the point to it anyway. Rather "tell the truth and shame the devil" as my mother used to say.
I don't care if people think less of me because I don't measure up to their fantasies. So I'm far too open about my life.
I do agree though about liars. Some people do it because they feel inadequate, so they'll fabricate stories about their fabulous lives and achievements, make themselves sound more successful, or happy, or better. I spent some time with someone just recently who did this. It was fairly obvious she didn't know what she was talking about but she spent the whole visit telling us about her achievements as a public speaker, and her brilliant computer skills. Just smile and nod, Ivy, just smile and nod. No point in making enemies with people who embellish the truth, or claim stuff they did which you know they didn't, like passing off someone else's photos as their own.

I've been trying not wearing socks this summer, but it seen all my shoes give a blister or two from just few kilometers walking, not to mention if I tried to actually run.

Re:
I do have a small rant about how people require paper, actual paper in this digital age. Surely a one-time-password to your phone should be enough security. After all the banks use it. So now while I don't have paper and a printer, and a car to go to the shops to get it, I'm having to rely on other people to print paper and bring it to me to sign. Often it's just one signature.

Re: The Rant thread
I'm annoyed that movie/game remake/sequels use the same title as original of the franchise.
If it's a full reboot like Star Trek, I can sort of understand.
But Halloween...
So, we have the original Halloween (1978), 7 sequels (last two of which ignored films 3-6), 2007 reboot also called Halloween (and it's sequel titled Halloween II, same as the 1981 film).
And now we're getting new film that is sequel to the original (and the second?), ignoring other sequels and the reboots, and this film is called... Halloween.
Why? there's already two films by that exact name, one of which this is a sequel to.
Or the new God of War game. It's fourth game and I get that it's pretty separate from earlier trilogy, but nevertheless it's clearly a sequel continuing the story, so why not just GoW4 or if you want to separate it from the numbered three, give it a subtitle.
Now you have two games by same name and the latter isn't a remake or reboot, but a sequel, the fourth game in the series.
This happens too much.
At least the next Predator and Batman films are THE Predator and THE Batman...

Re:
There's not much in the way of original movies and tv anymore. It's mostly just an ongoing drag of the same old shows, or revisiting old ones from long ago. I see there's even a remake of Dynasty, which was a terrible show when it was first broadcast, and now can only be worse, like the Dallas rerun.
I suppose with the world the way it is at the moment, and education and the arts in particular, not being the most important thing in people's lives anymore, people can't be bothered. I'm actually watching shows I didn't have time to watch in the past twenty years, more than watching the new stuff which is really the same story set in different places, with different names.

Re: The Rant thread
Can't be helped: you need to get people's attention and a familiar name does that.
Quite bad with games, looking at E3 now.

Re: The Rant thread
Can't get into MacGyver, the original was such big part of my childhood.
I've never seen original Hawaii 5-0 and only bit of the new.
