They've royally messed up mail this morning, we got something meant to different building and a former coworker of dad popped in, having gotten his mail... to different street.

Email spam is really firing up these days, usually it's been around 1-3 per week, right now it's the same per day.

I do agree about the spam and con artists on both email and Whatsapp - not just annoying, but scary too!

I don't get spam. I get people asking to friend me on Instagram, and Facebook, but I just block them. If I get unsolicited phone calls, I block the numbers. I have a huge list of blocked numbers on my phone.

Re: The Rant thread

I do this rant every other year and usually in Sports, but just for change and with the excuse this is Olympics instead of just World Championship, I'll put it here this time.

I'm talking about the tournament system in 2018 Olympic ice hockey emoticon
(though the same applies to any other sport)

Let's start with the less faulty Men's tournament. On preliminary round there are three groups of four. After that group winners and best second go to quarterfinals while the other eight do an extra playoff round for the remaining four QF places.

Two things wrong here are "best second" and the "extra playoff round". The latter is more of an opinion, but IMO playoffs in general - and even more so in WC and Olympics - teams should start at same level, clean slate, with no other advantage than the opponent being decided by previous success.
The "second best" is worse offender. You are comparing results of teams against different opponents and based on those giving advantage on someone. That is straight out unfair.
There's also third thing I don't like and that's the fact that all 12 teams continue to playoffs, making preliminary rounds almost meaningless.

All this could be easily avoided. Having 12 teams gives several options how to play, most obvious ones being four groups of three (two best of each to QFs) or two groups of 6 (four best to QFs).
Would that affect number of games? Now we have 30 (unless the worst qualify on next games, don't know of that); in my optional systems it'd be 20 or 38. Some difference but not decisive.

The way I see, they've taken the worst of the basic options.

But on Women's tournament it's worse. This is the real outrage that gets me ranting.

We have eight teams: USA, Canada, Finland, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan and South Korea (host).
But some teams are more equal than others. You see, before the first puck has hit ice, it has been decided that none of the first four teams (USA, Canada, Finland, Russia) can be 7th or 8th. Which also means one of those four must get a medal, despite there being four other teams competing. In !@#$ OLYMPICS!

The same unfair system is bad enough in world championships, but there it can be little bit justified. It's kind of like some of qualification left to be a part of the tournament. Not pretty, but considering superiority of top teams in the current state of the sport, it's understandable (but not acceptable).

But we're talking about Olympics. Imagine if some other sport had tops of world ranking put directly to finals and other athletes/teams having to first go through qualifying? Isn't it very much against the spirit of Olympics that competitors don't start on even ground and furthermore the advantage is given to those who are best based on previous results?

Aside the unacceptable system, I sadly have to question whether women's ice hockey belongs to Olympics at all. There are still so few competitive teams that IMO this is not something Olympic medals should be given, at least for another decade or two. (Of course the problem is that unless a sport get this kind of visibility, it won't grow. But in current situation, I don't think this is good PR.)

Rant of the day: how Finnish TV treats children's shows.

Now, I admit that in general when you have reruns, programs don't have absolutely steady spots. But this is freaking lottery. And some ideas don't make sense.
I've previously complained how they've shown GoT (and something else): 5 episode marathon - when you have new episodes, that is - and then rerun those 5 once a week, thus showing the other half of the season 6 weeks later similarly.

Well, if that was annoying, this morning My Little Pony came up with something even better.
There are 5 children's animations. Of each you have 3 episodes (on this saturday morning). In what order should you air them:
Order #1: show 1 episode 1; show 1 episode 2; show 1 episode 3; show 2 episode 1; show 2 episode 2...
Order #2: show 1 episode 1; show 2 episode 1; show 3 episode 1; show 4 episode 1; show 5 episode 1; show 1 episode 2...

OK, if you want to watch them all it doesn't matter that much. But if you - like obviously me in this case - are watching only one (or some) of the shows, it means you watch your show, then wait an hour to see the next episode, then wait another hour to watch the third.

To be fair, they've hardly ever pulled something like this, this is a worst example. But that's not all.

It was about month or two ago that first 12 episodes - 12 out of season of 26, I have no idea why - of latest MLP season were shown. It's been reruns since.
Now suddenly, out of nowhere, they show three new episodes 13-15. For weeks they've shown reruns of last two seasons mon-fri and at weekend the monday and tuesday episodes again (but not wed-fri). Along this week, it's been episodes from about last season halfway; those continue next week. And tomorrow at sunday, there's still rerun of monday (or tuesday) episode.
I had assumed, as many might, that they'll finish last season reruns, then rerun the shown episodes of new season and after that show these unaired ones. And it was damn lucky I happened to take a look at upcoming programs last night to see there suddenly are new episodes coming. (And in fact I checked it because there had been misinformation, including printed in papers, about these exact programs. It had changed at some point and what do I see: new MLP episodes I've been waiting for weeks.)

The other shows seem to be new ones from start.
And next saturday... it's back to normal. I have no idea when the new MLP episodes continue. They just suddenly one day, between weeks of daily reruns, show three new episodes.

There is a method to this madness. And it is that this is actually a ******* ******* way of promoting a streaming service where the full seasons are available.
By making watching them on TV as impractical as possible and trying to trick kids(/adults with refined taste for entertainment aka bronies) miss some new episodes of their favorite series.

I hardly watch tv anymore. A few shows I really like, I'll watch those, and binge-watch them again. Apart from news, I don't bother with live tv.

Earpiece has broken from the glasses I got just last winter. These had rubber bits (unlike any of my previous glasses) and it's totally torn.
I wore the old glasses 20 years without any repaired, my first 2 lasted through childhood and teenage, but these damn modern things aren't made to last.

Also don't know what's with the new type/material lenses, you can only get them clear with a micro fiber cloth.

There's a little black dot on my TV that looks like a small insect. It's near center of the screen and it's annoying the hell out of me.
I'm not sure when and how this has appeared, but I fear it's permanent.
