It's uncertain is the Bahrain GP entirely cancelled for this year or could it be reassingned near the end of season.

I heard that yesterday. So when does it start and what do you want me to choose?

I want to stick with the same old main game we had on both years: different driver for every race.

And unless much objected, I was thinking of keeping the team game from last year as second.

You have exactly month (well actually less) for objections and requests.

Also: I'll post the "season start" game/questions once Hispania and Renault name the last drivers.

Just give me the list to choose from Kaunisto.

The first race will still now definitely be in Australia (Melbourne) at the end of March, so plenty of time yet to give choices ... Bahrein may or may not happen later in the year if they can fit it in.

OK, now that Liuzzi is (more or less) confirmed as the last driver (in Hispania propably last indeed) lets set up the games.

Re:

Time for my "WHAT THE HELL HAVE THEY DONE TO F1 NOW" rant.

I am of course talking about the "innovation" of the year - the adjustable rear wing. And the ridiculous rules related. I have to admit that even I am not sure I understand how the new rule works and - if I may say so myself - that's something. However, I'm convinced this is the second worst change in F1 ever, or at least in the last twenty years when I've followed the sport. (Worst obviously being the current point system, which threw away 40 years of almost comparable statistics and didn't change anything, just multiplying points by 2,5.)

The adjustable wing itself isn't the disaster; it's just a bad idea. Like number of drivers and other experts have poited, it's a silly gimmick that causes an unnecessary extra risk. If something goes wrong and that gets stuck, the worst case scenario is worst crash for years, because it works in top speed situations.

What I find simply unacceptable is the rule about using it. Let me try to explain it and why it's absolutely wrong.

Firstly, it can only be used in predefined part of the track (usually main straight). Charlie Whiting decides where it may be used.
What that means is there's different rules for different parts of track. I dare any of you to tell me that's a good idea in any track motorsport. But even that is just stupid; I'm only getting to the actually fucked-up thing about this.

The rule says "drivers will only be able to use it when they are within one second of the car in front". So you can only open the wing - estimated to add 15 km/h - when you're close behind another car. In short: when you're about overtake someone, you get to use this "turbo boost".
To see clearly how utterly stupid this is, let's imagine the same effect would have been created the other way round: how sounds a rule that whenever someone is passing you, you must slow down 15km/h? This is practically the same thing!

Worst case scenario (except that if this did happen, it'd put a quick end to this !@#$): After same number of stops and having pretty equal cars, the top two driwers are on last laps. After driving few laps close, it becomes clear that they pass each other in turn every lap. So in the last lap they have to try to get on the second place right behind leader to get in the position where they can pass in finish line, because only the second in last turn can use the extra speed.

Also this means that two even cars that pass each other every lap may be faster than a car driving alone (since it can never use the wing).

This whole farce comes from the eternal demand for more overtaking. But I expect this'll in sad way demonstrate that it's not passing by any means what we want, but competition between drivers. I can't claim I have any ideas on how to do that (at least not ones that haven't been tried along years), but stupid gimmicks don't improve any sport.

I agree, it's a very bad idea, an idea that has the potential to make me lose interest over the coming weeks if it is as farcical as it sounds. It gives drivers making passing manouvres an unfair advantage, I'm all for overtaking and I would like the men in charge to find a way of making passing more frequent, but not at the expense of fair competition.

Any news on the scheduled rain plan suggested by Bernie? If that does happen then I will seriously suggest boycotting the sport.

The folks in Texas say they'd be ready to give it a try. But hopefully it stays in "silly ideas" box.
On the other hand, Bernie has one smart opinion, for change: he's against the 2013 motor change to 1,6 liter turbo V4 that FIA has pushed through so far.

Back to ranting.

And what about KERS? Admitably the idea of gathering energy from breaking is a fine one. I don't mind the system itself.
But the rules on this are stupid. They limit the use of the system so that there's no room for development; once someone perfects it KERS is just an extra system, not something teams compete in (and already the differences are mostly on reliability).
What I hate most is that the system is optional. That's because it means there are two different kinds of cars, teams competing almost in two rules.
And all this adds up to situation that the system is another disadvantage to small teams: extra expense and few can't even afford to have it.

And another rant: the tire colors. The different types of tires will have Pirelli logo on different colors.
From soft to hard: red, yellow, white and silver; orange and light blue for wet and intermediate.
Possible problems:
1. is the orange different enough from both red and yellow? Some tracks use the two softest tires
2. yellow and silver? Better be very bright yellow
3. light blue vs white/silver.
They should've just kept the old system (one color markings on the softer or harder tires of race) and added two more colors for wets, instead of having six different colors.

(Damn I'm fired up and the season hasn't even started...)

Kaunisto I'm sorry, but please include me out of the competition this year. There's too much going on with F1 and the comp is now too complicated for me to spend time on; I wouldn't mind choosing a winner for each race, or the top three or something like that - with whichever driver I choose as many times as I like. But all the other stuff frankly doesn't interest me and makes it a chore rather than fun at the moment .. I have so much going on in my real life, with lots of trips away and other things to worry about, so I won't have time to study everything up and read all the blurbs etc.

My apologies but it's wearing a little thin for me now! I'll leave it to you and Leo and Mel and whoever else ... but I'll still follow your progress of course!
