F1 2011
Time to forget this year and look to the next season.
There will be at least three new drivers and they're all bringing new countries to the sport: Pastor Maldonado of Venezuela on Williams, Mexican Sergio Pérez on Sauber and Jérôme d'Ambrosio from Belgium on Virgin.
Of course this means three of last season drivers are out (or five if Hispania wont find money somewhere fast).

Re:
You'll have to spell it out for me Kaunisto, with two grandchildren and a little bit of pressure to finish my book before my blog site dies, I just don't have the time, or the ability to concentrate on learning about the F1, I will participate but you'll have to point me to where and what decisions to make.

Re:
When is the first race Tomi? Am I right in thinking that the new rules only come in for 2013? There's an article about it all in the latest CAR mag here but I haven't had a chance to read it yet ...

Re:
Huge changes for 2013... if teams don't start a total war with FIA.
But few new things this year too: the damned KERS is coming back... on some of the teams.
New tires from Pirelli; they say they are better but last shorter time, so we're expecting mostly 2-3 pit stops again instead of last season one compulsory.
And adjustable wings. Don't ask.
Season starts in March.

Re:
Time for a review on teams and drivers this season.
The (still) top four:
Red Bull: last season champions; some predict they dominate this season, others say they wont win again
1 Sebastian Vettel: the surprise champion may well be best German again
2 Mark Webber: to be seen how well he'll get along with the team this year
McLaren: expected to do better than last year
3 Lewis Hamilton: all champions must be considered candidates this season too...
4 Jenson Button: ...even Button
Ferrari: are swearing to win this year
5 Fernando Alonso: double champion is still hungry, especially after that season finale
6 Felipe Massa: Massa has to do better than last year or he wont drive Ferrari 2012, contract or no
Mercedes: after disappointing last season, they may now compete for wins
7 Michael Schumacher: despite last season, I'm still expecting a real comeback
8 Nico Rosberg: one of the best drivers; after all he's half Finn
The middle teams:
Renault: last year only one to challenge top four, I don't think they can do it now
9 Robert Kubica: I wish he'd finally get the car he deserves
10 Vitaly Petrov: the Russian from once-Finnish city wouldn't be here without tons of sponsor money
Williams: no clue how this year will be
11 Rubens Barrichello: the most experienced driver... ever
12 Pastor Maldonado: GP2 champion brings Venezuela to F1
Force India: seems to improve year by year
14 Adrian Sutil: fast, but has many accidents; I say he wont make it through season without penalties
15 Paul di Resta: DTM champion, this is his first appearance in F1 other than test driver
Sauber: been running out of money for couple years
16 Kamui Kobayashi: talented young driver
17 Sergio Pérez: Mexican came with sponsors, to be seen if he's any good
Toro Rosso: let's remember who it used to be: Minardi, the bottom team year after year; nothing new
18 Sébastien Buemi: did pretty well against Vettel back when they were teammates
19 Jaime Alguersuari: I'm suprised they kept him
The last season newcomers:
Lotus: say they must get points this season or the team is done
20 Jarno Trulli: running out of motivation
21 Heikki Kovalainen: still the only (full) Finn in F1 (besides Williams test driver Bottas)
HRT aka Hispania: still uncertain if they make it to end of season (or even start)
22 Narain Karthikeyan: returns to F1, not likely to do any better than back when
23 ???????????????: one spot still open
Virgin: propably second worst team this year
24 Timo Glock: yet another talented German, but can't do much with car like this
25 Jérôme d'Ambrosio: another new driver from new country; welcome Belgium
Engines:
Ferrari engines used by: Ferrari, Sauber & Toro Rosso
Renault engines used by: Red Bull, Renault & Lotus
Mercedes engines used by: McLaren, Mercedes & Force India
Cosworth engines used by: Williams, Hispania & Virgin

Re: Re:
I suspect that Kubica will replace Massa in 2012 (if Massa does no good).
It's a shame Williams got rid of Hulkenberg (who is now Force India's reserve I believe) especially after a string of decent performances at the end of last year. I thought that he may have come good.

Re:
Kaunisto, you have so much enthusiasm for this sport, I wish I could work up some interest in it. All I think is that it's a horrible waste of a very expensive commodity, but then I suppose it keeps thousands of people employed and millions of people amused, so ignore me.
Just let me know when I need to choose something, at least I know some of the names now.

Re:
Come on, only thing wasted except in meaningless amounts is money, and that would be used for advertixement anyway.
The "adjustable wings" thing they came up for this year... as if KERS wasn't bad enough. Year after year they keep trying to come up with any possible trick to have more overtaking.
I wont even start explaining this until FIA themselves are able to decide the rules.

Re:
I will be watching but as I am not on here that much I better not enter any competitions.
I also think that Nico Rosberg is under-estimated as a driver and I think that he would do better if he had a better car. He actually drove a very solid season last year and no one ever mentioned him in commentary because he was just doing what was required.
