Latest from Finnish game industry

]Commander: Conquest of the Americas is new strategy game by Nitro Games, one of our finest.
Their earlier work East India Company apparently was successful enough for making this rahter similar title. It'll be interesting to see how this one sells.

]official page for the game

Notable Finnish games have lately been PSN/XBLA downloadables, and sequels.

Trine and the new Trine 2 are platformer/puzzle games. For PS3, Windows and Mac

Trials: Evolution is sequel to Trials HD, a motorcycle trick game. XBLA

Alan Wake has since the original game had two DLC add-ons. Now comes a stand alone game American Nightmare. XBLA

Also coming soon: Alan Wake for PC, that'll include the DLCs.
There's much speculation about Alan Wake 2; possibly it'll be for next-gen XBox.

And lastly, Stardust: coming to PS Vita, the latest incarnation of oldest Finnish gameseries. Stardust shoot'em-ups started on Amiga and it'll be interesting to see how one does today.

I know how much you love computer games Kaunisto but I simply can't. All I do is to occasionally play Diamond Dash on Facebook or solitaire on my iPad while watching TV. I would be bored to tears playing computer games day in and day out.

Probably biggest chance with an international game series any Finnish company has ever had, Bugbear Entertainment's Ridge Racer: Unbounded is coming next month.

This is first RR for long time (besides handheld) and first not made by the great Japanese Namco-Bandai themselves. I notice they don't call it Ridge Racer 8; if this fails they can name next RR8 and pretend this little sidestep never happened.
But a great opportunity for Bugbear nontheless.

Bugbear is known for racing games, Rally Trophy and FlatOut series for example. The new game is expected have much more chrashing and breaking elements than the traditional RR games and while this may work and create exciting gameplay, I fear fans of the series will be suspicious, at least.
I myself have enjoyed RR Type 4.

RR:U (see above) is out, or at least reviews are. And most of them are disappointing, generally being about 7/10. Game is said to lack speed and personality.

But there's at least one very positive review and it's from one of most respected and strict magazines in world, the Edge that gave Unbounded 9/10. And Edge gives full 10s only to couple games a year.

So now it's all up to sales if Bugbear gets to do RR:U 2.

Rovio - maker of Angry Birds - has the next game: Amazing Alex. Propably good game and best of luck for it, but...
It's a total ripoff. Almost worth taking to court. No, I don't mean Casey's Contraptions; Rovio bought it and remade to AA, fair enough. I'm talking about the great puzzle classic The Incredible Machine. From what I've seen AA is a shameless copy of TIM.
If so, great game but not cool, Rovio.

Why am I not surprised? Angry Birds itself was a copy of Crush the Castle and Castle Clout. Well, in my somewhat biased mind maybe. emoticon

Bugbear's last game Ridge Racer Unbounded (see few posts above) was mediocre success. They have now announced a new car game to be in works, for PC and possibly others.
Speculation says it'll be spiritual sequel to FlatOut games, though not one by name.
