I think this is first time the event is on pay TV. And Finnish jumping has hit bottom. Once great champion Janne Ahonen is making another sad comeback after retiring twice (to be in olympics) and he's about 20th. The horrible thing is he's the best Finn, he or Koivuranta who originally competed in combined. It is uncertain if he'll compete this winter, but aims to be in next olympics. 2011 was the second time he quit; one of the reasons to his return are recent equipment rule changes that give less advantage to small and lightweight jumpers (Ahonen is over 180cm).nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Fri, 11 Jan 2013 23:35:06 +0000 Re: Ski jumpinghttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p96194,from=rss#post96194https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p96194,from=rss#post96194Correction te earlier. This year isn't as bad as last few; it's worst ever. At least the Four Hills Tournament is. We only have one man there, other were called home after failing to qualify. And this will likely be how this winter goes.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Thu, 03 Jan 2013 20:14:07 +0000 Re: Ski jumpinghttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p95927,from=rss#post95927https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p95927,from=rss#post95927This season looks as bad as last few. Janne Happonen, who appeared to be our best man, broke his knee and returns next season, in best case. Special thing about skijumping this year is new event: mixed team, two men and two women. Finland wont do well because we have only one good woman jumper.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Wed, 28 Nov 2012 18:30:15 +0000 Re: Ski jumpinghttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p93078,from=rss#post93078https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p93078,from=rss#post93078This year's Four Hills Tournament began with a... I'm not sure if to call it circus or scandal. I admit jury made bad mistakes and the decision wasn't entirely unreasonable, but basically what happened was that Austrians and Germans did bad on first round and then their people made jury to restart the whole thing, wiping away the results of original almost finished first round.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Fri, 30 Dec 2011 23:24:23 +0000 Re:https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85613,from=rss#post85613https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85613,from=rss#post85613Maybe Finland should try some summer sports lol!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Petal Alderin)Sun, 09 Jan 2011 08:09:22 +0000 Re:https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85592,from=rss#post85592https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85592,from=rss#post85592...and it's disaster. After three good hills the firsttimer Koivuranta barely fails to get on second round in last competition and ends up 23rd instead of relatively good places 10-15 he could've made with just couple more meters. And Hautamäki, after rising to third place in total on first round, totally failed the last seventh jump of FHT and went down to seventh place in final results. And today more bad news. We had Hautamäki and Olli Muotka (who replaced injured Larinto in last couple FHT hills) in Harrachov flying hill, but both failed pretty bad (though Muotka being a new kid, 18th place wasn't total loss).nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Sat, 08 Jan 2011 19:17:12 +0000 Re:https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85486,from=rss#post85486https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85486,from=rss#post85486I hate to hear of sportsmen being badly injured so I hope Larinto will be okay - and holding thumbs and crossing fingers for at least, at the bery least, a third place for Finland.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Petal Alderin)Wed, 05 Jan 2011 08:44:33 +0000 Re: Ski jumpinghttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85477,from=rss#post85477https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85477,from=rss#post85477Larinto's injury is bad, the season's over for him... and we were already having hard time to find four good jumpers for team events. Third FHT hill Innsbruck was good competition... except for Finns. But we still have Hautamäki 4th (almost even to 3rd) for the finale. No real chances to win the tournament anymore, but third in total would be nice; could even make second with perfect jumps.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Wed, 05 Jan 2011 00:41:24 +0000 Re:https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85357,from=rss#post85357https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85357,from=rss#post85357Very disappointing Kaunisto, I'm sorry!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Petal Alderin)Sun, 02 Jan 2011 09:21:50 +0000 Re:https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85354,from=rss#post85354https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85354,from=rss#post85354The second competition Garmisch-Partenkirchen was a complete joke. Jury didn't do their job and Larinto injured himself with longest jump of the day. Also half of men had to jump with winds barely within rules, and I'm sure in several cases beyond at the time jumper was in air. Complete lottery, which dropped one of the Austrians out of competition. Only good thing is they quit it after first round, so this'll affect on FHT total only half as much as other hills. In total Hautamäki is now 3rd, other Finns have no chance to top despite good results today.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Sat, 01 Jan 2011 21:07:51 +0000 Re:https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85246,from=rss#post85246https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85246,from=rss#post85246Well we'll hold thumbs for Finland and hope they do well anyway!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Petal Alderin)Wed, 29 Dec 2010 21:44:44 +0000 Re:https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85244,from=rss#post85244https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p85244,from=rss#post85244The Four Hills Tournament aka The Hill Week, the Monaco GP of skijumping, began today with Oberstdorf. Finland had four men there: Janne Ahonen: The only five-time winner of FHT, one of greatest ever in the sport. His comeback (after short retirement) last year was reasonably good, 2nd in FHT and 4th in Olympics, but this year looks real bad. Ahonen barely made it to second round, failing there and ending 31st in Oberstdorf. Ville Larinto: Our newest star, has done this year better than ever, but still unreliable. Now had one bad jump in worst possible time (after winning qualifyings yesterday); bad wind, bad luck, bad rules (if you ask me) and he didn't make it to round two, therefore losing any chance to be in top 20 in FHT. Anssi Koivuranta: For years one of our best in Nordic combined, this is his first FHT. He was always a top jumper in combined, but not fast enough in skiing. Now perhaps losing stamina with age, he's moved to skijumping, having minor success. Today 27th. Matti Hautamäki: Our only hope this year. Very uneven jumper who needs good winds; some years he takes medals and some years he... well, sucks. Started FHT awesomely being second in Oberstdorf.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Wed, 29 Dec 2010 21:42:34 +0000 Re: Ski jumpinghttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p77579,from=rss#post77579https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p77579,from=rss#post77579Week to games and doesn't look very good for us. Pity Ahonen was barely second in last Bischofshofen hill, so he got no wins; all statistics for Austria. Before this it seemed we would likely get no medals in Olympics, but now we have at least one man with a chance.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kaunisto)Thu, 07 Jan 2010 08:41:18 +0000 Re: Ski jumpinghttps://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p76467,from=rss#post76467https://banythinggoes3.runboard.com/p76467,from=rss#post76467The Four Hills Tournament is on again and JANNE AHONEN IS BACK! Nobody really expected the five-time winner - returning from retirement like Schumi - to make it to top five, but he was 2nd in Oberstdorf and is seriously competing for 6th title in this Monaco of skijumping. Other Finns aren't doing well, but at least we have the maximum six men tomorrow in classic Garmisch-Partenkirchen new year event. Our other legendary jumper Matti Nykänen isn't doing as well. In the twenty years after career he's been singer, pornstar, convict, various other things, won veteran championship and had his (last) wife file divorce for 14 times. now he hit a new low at christmas trying to stab and strange his wife, though it's investigated as assult intead of attempted murder.
