Once again I am reminded that I just can't wear any shoes without socks (at least beyond 1km) without getting blisters.

I had a chat with a stray cat at the mall this morning. I offered to take him to the vet, feed him, and either take him to a shelter, or home. He refused, was nice about it, gave me lots of complaints about his life, but he wasn't going to let me near him. I did leave some food for him though.

Shopping, cutting the guys' hair for them, making soup, just the same things I do every Friday.

Tomorrow I'll start a war with several CD/DVD drives and computers.

I've abandoned the free apps for photos that come with my OS. They just mess up the pics and save them by date in the database which doesn't make it easy to find them unless you know the date.

I already have a saved collection of photos from the past. Now I'm working through the photos of the last three years, sorting them, dumping duplicates, and then putting them into storage. I'm reaching the point where I'm going to pay for a cloud service so I don't need spare hard drives anymore.

Otherwise I'm exploring my love of cooking that I abandoned while I lived away from the family. We have friends and family visiting every weekend, and they enjoy my creativity. So I'm into that now. Trying new ideas with food, testing them on my visitors. Because I'm doing this, Barry is into feeding my interest, like he always does. Today he bought me a beautiful new set of knives in a block. I haven't had new knives in ages, so this was a nice welcome present. Then while he was about it he also replaced my glass cake and cheese servers that I lost years ago. These are gorgeous.

Stupid microwave went beserk this morning. It cooked the dish I was using to cook potatoes, and not the food. I've had this microwave cooking set for decades, now the base is damaged thanks to the machine having lost its mind. Now I'll have to buy a new one. Hopefully this one will still be usable, or I'll have to give it to an electronics disposal place.

Re: Hello, goodbye and what are you doing today...

Week not starting well.

Nothing at flea market, nothing at library, nothing on TV...

I'd say I lost the the drive/computer war, about 2-1.

I have three burning DVD drives: one is unreliably on read/write, one is jammed so that it doesn't open and one shuts down power of whole computer if you put a disc in. So for the time being, I can't burn DVDs - not a problem this month or this year, but needs to be solved eventually.

I settled on putting in my gaming PC - DVD drive of which was the last of the three - one of my old CD drives. Means I have some 15 games I can't play for the time being (though half of them I could put in the new PC, assuming there's space, but on some I couldn't transfer my save data). But even though those are among the 100 biggest and most important of my thousands of games, I can live without them a year or two.

So these inconveniences I'll leave hanging.

Long overdue to get a whole damn new computer, the latest has soon been three years, bought very used, and I would kind of want to be able to play something made on this decade...

...and now the old CD drive stopped working, after I had used it for a day and packed everything away.

This week is becoming ridiculously bad.

After switching in and out several CD and DVD drives... I have the original working again.
I believe the problem is with cord from power unit to drive - which can't be switched, but fortunately there's another (until now feeding hard drive and graphics card) for which I happened to have a divider.

The whole damn thing is now shakier than ever...
It has served me well for four years, over a year being my only internet PC, but now I really should stop relying on it further than I can throw it (and it is my biggest PC).
