Eurovision Song Contest as usual: worst act wins and Finland loses.

Something more sophisticated lately: Orson Welles' Shakespeare films Macbeth, Othello and Falstaff aka Chimes at Midnight

Re: What have you been watching this evening?

I watched the first episode of the BBC's new political drama A Very English Scandal. It's about the Jeremy Thorpe-Norman Scott affair and the ensuing attempted murder investigation. Hugh Grant is fantastic as Thorpe. It shows his acting talents, which is good since Hugh gets typecast a lot.

For the benefit of others who may not be aware, Jeremy Thorpe was a former Liberal MP and leader of the party who was embroiled in scandal when it was discovered that he had a homosexual relationship with Norman Scott during a time when homosexuality was still a criminal offense. The scandal magnified when it was alleged that Thorpe then hired a hitman to kill Scott to save his political career. The hit was foiled because the hired killer had a dog phobia and Scott owned dogs. The drama has highlighted the absurdity of having homosexuality as a criminal offense and it doesn't portray Thorpe positively. He comes across as a career focussed politician who puts himself first above others and someone who used Scott, who came across as very vulnerable as a young homosexual man during a time it was not accepted and as someone who had mental health issues and a troubled background.

That sounds excellent Leo - I do prefer British TV to anything else. Will watch out for it.

Yesterday was the Comrades Marathon here, and we vegged out all day watching this amazing race.
It's the biggest marathon in the world and very special ... there were 19000 runners plus, and it was just short of 100km from Pietermaritzburg to Durban this year, which is known as the down run. Wonderful spirit and true comradeship, with participants running for different reasons. Please google it to see lots more detail.

Tried the tennis from Roland Garros but got fed up with all the grunting and groaning from both finalists so gave up. Used to be only shrieking women, but now the men are also sounding as though they're being slaughtered.

Missed the Canadian GP, forgot about it!

Not the most exciting race of the year.

World Cup will help, but otherwise I'm running out of anything to watch.

Going to get Netflix, methinks.

Had it before but it was a total mess with account problems, so will try again after Wimbledon.
