Guide dog discrimination
As most of us are aware, guide dogs are legally allowed access to all public areas, including supermarkets, restaurants and cafes. In recent years, however, some restaurant and café owners have gotten themselves into trouble for refusing entry to people with guide dogs.

Re:
Not only guide dogs but emotional support dogs too. I find it a whole lot easier to socialise when I have my dog with me. I take him with me as much as I can, but because he doesn't have official "guide dog" labels, I can only take him into eating places if I eat outside. This is horrible because he's pretty well trained to sit at my feet when I eat. He knows he'll get some so he sits still watching every mouthful. And he walks nicely on the leash. Yet he has to do this outside. Very annoying.

Re:
Do you know what the laws are in your country regarding Assistance dogs? When you visit a café, you shouldn't be forced to sit and eat outside just because you have an emotional support dog.

Re:
In this province they're totally anal about dogs. Apparently they're "dirty" so they have to be kept outside. I'm working on getting him declared a support animal. Not much I can do here, but when I'm living in a big city, I'll sort it out.

Re:
Which province do you live in? You might be interested in contacting the South African Guide Dogs Association. I looked on their website and found a section referring to Guide/Service Dog access. It clearly states that guide dogs accompanying blind people may be permitted in the sales or serving area of a food premises.

I'm moving back to the north (Johannesburg) in a few months. I'll contact them when I get there. I'm in Kwazulu Natal at the moment, just across a short walk from Petal's house.

Re:
As far as I know, guide dogs are even allowed into supermarkets here. And, of course, onto aircraft.
Not sure about support dogs. Maybe it would need to be justified/motivated by a doctor's letter?

Re:
Here in Australia, the only places where guide/service dogs aren't allowed to go are zoos and hospital operating theatres.
